- •Solid build quality with reliable input/output options and smooth height adjustment for ergonomic comfort.
- •Easy-to-navigate on-screen display lets you fine-tune settings quickly for various gaming or viewing preferences.
- •Overclocking up to 280Hz is stable and maintains performance during extended gaming sessions.
- •G-SYNC compatibility works seamlessly, eliminating screen tearing and stuttering for a smooth gaming experience.
- •The 27” 1080p screen size hits a sweet spot for competitive gaming by balancing screen real estate with strong GPU performance at high FPS.
Cons
- •HDR400 mode can look oversaturated and unnatural, so many users prefer to keep it off.
- •ELMB Sync may cause dizziness or discomfort for some users, limiting its practical use during long sessions.
- •The included cable feels cheap, and upgrading to a higher-quality DisplayPort 2.1 cable can improve reliability.
- •"Turbo mode" setting can induce flickering, making it better to disable this feature.
- •A minor burn-in issue was reported in one unit, visible only in very dark scenes but otherwise not impacting normal use.
- •Some stuck pixels appeared after about a year, though they remain barely noticeable during typical usage.
- •The monitor’s cable management design on the base is narrow and awkward, making it tricky to organize cables neatly.
- •As a 1080p display, it lacks the resolution sharpness of 1440p or 4K monitors, which might be a drawback if you value image detail beyond competitive gaming.
- •Color and brightness performance, while great for gaming, could underwhelm those seeking superior cinematic or photo editing quality.
Bottom Line
If you're a serious competitive or esports gamer craving a buttery-smooth 280Hz refresh rate with near-instant 1ms response on a vibrant 27” display, the ASUS TUF Gaming VG279QM is a stellar choice that balances speed, clarity, and color accuracy. Keep in mind that HDR mode is more of a novelty here and ELMB Sync may cause discomfort for some. If you want higher resolution or more polished HDR experience for single-player/creative use, consider stepping up to a 1440p or 4K monitor instead. For gamers who prioritize speed and responsiveness at 1080p, this one is hard to beat.
