Pros
- •Handles multiple simultaneous bandwidth-intensive tasks smoothly without stuttering or interruptions.
- •Offers straightforward setup with a guided wizard but also provides granular configuration for advanced users.
- •Provides comprehensive features—including advanced VPN support and subscription-free network security—without additional fees.
- •Delivers significant VPN performance improvements, sustaining up to 220 Mbps down and 180 Mbps up on OpenVPN, far surpassing previous generation routers.
- •Maintains solid Wi-Fi 7 speeds while ensuring backwards compatibility with older Wi-Fi devices.
- •Includes useful USB connectivity for external storage support.
- •Mobile app support allows for convenient remote monitoring and management.
- •Equipped with a powerful 64-bit dual-core processor that comfortably manages 10-19 connected devices simultaneously.
- •The Game Boost feature helps reduce gaming latency by about 10-22 ms on tested servers.
- •Supports multiple VPN protocols (OpenVPN, L2TP, PPTP) with the ability to store up to 16 server configurations, plus selective device-level VPN routing (VPNfusion).
Cons
- •AiMesh compatibility with some older ASUS models (like AC1900P) is broken or inconsistent; older models can't be nodes for this router, though it can be a node with compatible units.
- •Game Boost feature can clash with VPN usage, potentially causing unintended disconnections.
- •WTFast optimization tool is limited to a single device and did not noticeably improve ping in testing.
- •Setting up bridge mode with other modems can be tricky and may require some networking know-how.
- •AiMesh performance when meshed achieves about 95% of original speed, so there is some speed loss during mesh networking.
- •Some advertised AiMesh compatibility claims do not hold up in real-world use, so verifying your existing devices before purchase is critical.
Bottom Line
The ASUS RT-BE92U BE9700 Tri-Band WiFi 7 Router is a powerhouse for users looking for blazing-fast wireless performance, advanced VPN capabilities, and strong gaming enhancements without subscription fees. It excels as a standalone router with rock-solid speeds, reliable security, and intelligent AI mesh technology, though those hoping for seamless AiMesh integration with older ASUS routers may encounter limitations. If you own older AiMesh units, double-check compatibility or consider other mesh-focused ASUS models designed specifically for backward compatibility. Overall, it’s a great future-proof choice for gaming enthusiasts and power users looking to embrace WiFi 7 and 10G wired capacity.
