- •The ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 offers a striking and innovative dual-screen design with the ROG ScreenPad Plus secondary display, enhancing productivity and multitasking.
- •The laptop is equipped with top-tier hardware, including an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, promising exceptional gaming and creative performance.
- •The 16” Mini LED main display boasts a fast 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, QHD resolution, and 100% DCI-P3 color accuracy, making it excellent for detailed visuals and smooth gameplay.
- •The laptop features a high-capacity 90Wh battery, supporting mobility and use on the go with Windows 11 Pro.
- •The innovative cooling system uses liquid metal and a unique thermal design aimed at unlocking peak CPU and GPU performance.
- •32GB DDR5 RAM and 1TB SSD storage provide plenty of power and speed for demanding applications.
Cons
- •Despite the cutting-edge cooling system, the AMD Ryzen 9 CPU runs extremely hot, frequently hitting 95-100°C, even under moderate loads, causing severe thermal throttling and instability.
- •Liquid metal thermal paste tends to displace within a few months, worsening overheating and raising concerns about cooling reliability and long-term durability.
- •Cooling pads and fan speed adjustments do little to mitigate the extreme CPU temperatures, which remain uncomfortably high.
- •CPU overheating negatively impacts GPU performance when stressed together, reducing overall system efficiency during intense workloads.
- •The system can be unstable, with frequent unexpected shutdowns and restarts, affecting usability and reliability.
- •USB Type-C charging is inconsistent, adding frustration to daily use.
- •Screen light leakage issues have been reported, affecting visual quality.
- •BIOS updates may cause major system failures like blue screens, rendering the laptop unusable for some users.
- •Customer support and repair services have been criticized for unresponsiveness and complexity, leaving buyers with limited options when facing hardware problems.
- •Fixing thermal issues may void warranties or require expensive professional repairs, making ownership a gamble.
Bottom Line
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is undoubtedly a gorgeous and powerful machine packed with features gamers and creators will drool over—especially the dual-screen setup and 240Hz Mini LED display. However, the persistent overheating of the AMD Ryzen 9 CPU and resulting system instability cast a big shadow over its appeal. If you prioritize reliability and a stress-free experience, you should strongly consider alternatives or wait for a revision that addresses these thermal issues. For a similarly powerful gaming laptop without these thermal headaches, you might look into other high-end ASUS ROG models or competitors that don’t rely on liquid metal cooling, as this technology appears problematic here.
