Pros
- •Exceptional gaming performance—handles demanding games like War Thunder at 400 fps and outperforms a PS5 on games like Call of Duty Warzone
- •Excellent thermal management with CPU temperatures staying under 85C and quiet fan operation during gameplay
- •Exceptionally bright display with burn-in resistance and a large 18-inch screen providing generous workspace
- •Customizable RGB keyboard with premium build quality and numerous configuration options
- •Strong performance in unoptimized games like Tarkov and PUBG
- •Reliable performance without requiring special performance mode tweaks
- •Competitive pricing for high-end gaming hardware
Cons
- •Power cord connector loosely disconnects from the adapter
- •Keyboard layout includes a number pad that cramps the space for dedicated keys like delete and insert
- •Bluetooth connectivity issues—some headphones like Bose QuietComfort won't output audio after pairing
- •Armoury Crate keyboard lighting software is unpolished and requires manual reconfiguration every time the laptop powers on
- •General software bugginess causes frequent malfunctions of expected features
- •Weak speaker volume—external speakers or headphones are recommended for better audio
- •Overall performance doesn't fully meet expectations for a high-end gaming laptop at this price point
Bottom Line
The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 is an absolute powerhouse for gaming—it crushes demanding titles and keeps its cool with impressive thermal management, all at a competitive price that we find genuinely impressive. However, we can't ignore that ASUS seems to have thrown their entire budget at the GPU and CPU while skimping on the details: the power connector is loose, the keyboard layout is cramped, Bluetooth connectivity is unreliable, speakers are weak, and the Armoury Crate software is notoriously buggy. This is a fantastic choice for performance-hungry gamers who can tolerate some rough edges, but if you need a polished, hassle-free experience, we'd recommend exploring other options.
