Pros
- •The 2-in-1 convertible design with a responsive 14" FHD touchscreen works well as both a laptop and tablet, enhancing versatility.
- •Battery life ranges from a solid 7-8 hours during typical work sessions to up to 14 hours with light usage, supporting long periods away from the charger.
- •Setup is quick and hassle-free, especially when connecting Android or iPhone devices via QR code.
- •Reliable performance for everyday tasks, including smooth work with Google Suite, making it a good fit for students and professionals alike.
- •The device is lightweight at 3.6 lbs, making it easy to carry for daily use.
- •Fast startup times and overall snappy responsiveness once warmed up, though not the speediest in its class.
- •Well-built with a quality display and solid Chromebook features, giving a good value for those needing a budget-friendly convertible laptop.
- •Includes a convenient MicroSD card slot, eliminating the need for bulky adapters to increase storage.
- •Charger is impressively fast and doubles as a charger for other devices like smartphones.
Cons
- •The price is on the higher side for a Chromebook featuring an Intel Celeron processor, which may be a deterrent for budget-conscious buyers.
- •Performance can be inconsistent at times, occasionally feeling slightly slow under heavier workloads or multitasking.
- •Lacks a backlit keyboard, which some users expect, especially on a premium-feeling touchscreen device.
- •Wi-Fi connectivity issues have been reported, resulting in unreliable internet access that frustrates users needing steady connections for school or work.
- •Customer support experiences have reportedly been poor, with cases of unhelpful service and paid repairs even on new devices.
- •The device does not support easy external monitor setup or dual-screen configurations through settings, limiting some productivity options.
- •Some units have experienced early hardware failures, including touchscreen and keyboard malfunctions within just a few days.
- •Missing Mac-specific apps like iMovie, which may be a downside for users switching platforms, although alternatives exist on ChromeOS.
Bottom Line
The ASUS Chromebook Flip CX1 is a solid convertible Chromebook for users who prioritize a flexible 2-in-1 design, decent battery life, and smooth integration with Google services at a somewhat premium price. However, if you need flawless Wi-Fi connectivity, a backlit keyboard, or rock-solid customer support, this model might leave you hanging. For those who want a dependable and lightweight ChromeOS device with touchscreen versatility and don’t mind occasional sluggishness, it’s a worthwhile option. If you are concerned about reported connectivity and support issues, we suggest carefully considering alternative Chromebooks with stronger user feedback around these areas before committing.
