💿Good news: the SSD is actually upgradeable. The XPS 14 (2026) uses a standard M.2 slot supporting both 2230 and 2280 form factors with PCIe Gen 4.
What's in the box: Dell ships a 2230 (shorter) SSD with a bracket filling the extra space. Factory options go up to 2TB.
What you can upgrade to: Pretty much any NVMe drive you want. 2TB and 4TB are the practical sweet spots right now. 8TB drives exist but cost a fortune.
Pro tip: The 2280 form factor (longer drives) gives you more options and better prices. Just remove the bracket when you install the bigger drive.
Solid upgrade choices:
- Samsung 990 Pro (fast and reliable)
- WD Black SN850X (excellent all-rounder)
- SK Hynix P41 Platinum (great value)
The money hack: Buy the 512GB base model and upgrade yourself. A 2TB Samsung 990 Pro costs way less than Dell's factory 2TB upgrade charge. You can even sell the stock drive to offset costs.
The catch: Technically, opening the laptop voids warranty. If that matters to you, either pay for Dell's upgrade or get their extended warranty that covers self-upgrades.
