The Yasutomo Sumi-e Japanese Traditional Watercolor Set is tailored for those who love traditional Sumi-e ink wash painting. It blends high-quality pigments in a practical set. According to the manufacturer's product description, it includes 12 vibrant colors: Crimson, Yellow Ochre, Lemon Yellow, Pearl Green, Viridian, Cobalt Blue, Indigo, Carmine, Red Ochre, Black, Chinese White, and Vermilion. These are designed for a high concentration of pigment, suitable not only for Sumi-e on rice paper but also for other paper crafts like calligraphy and stamping.
From our research, it seems that people really like these watercolors, especially for their vivid colors and ease of mixing. The paints dissolve well in water, which makes them pretty user-friendly, whether you're just starting out or have been painting for years.
The durable, compact design with a built-in mixing palette is also a hit for those who like to create art on the go.
As for the size of each paint pan, the manufacturer states they're about 3/4" x 1". However, there seems to be a bit of confusion among some who expected a different size based on comparisons with other brands like Kuretake and Kissho.
Still, the overall quality and color selection are well appreciated, according to many.
So, if you're diving into Sumi-e for the first time or need a handy set of watercolors for any project, this Yasutomo set is worth considering. It offers vibrant colors and solid quality, capturing the essence of traditional Japanese watercolor painting.
