What stays the same:
- Display specifications (nearly identical)
- Rear camera hardware (similar)
- 5x optical zoom telephoto
- Design language
Most noticeable improvements:
- Pixelsnap magnetic accessory compatibility
- Tensor G5 efficiency (cooler, better battery)
- Android 16 with Material 3 Expressive UI
Camera note: Most improvements are software-based—the Pixel 9 Pro XL will receive these updates too.
Wait another generation if:
- Your Pixel 9 Pro XL works well
- Magnetic accessories don't interest you
- The eSIM-only change (US) is problematic
Upgrade now if:
- Pixelsnap appeals to you
- Good trade-in value is available
- Efficiency matters
Definitely upgrade from Pixel 8 Pro XL or older —you'll see much more significant improvements across the board.
