The MacBook Pro 14-inch M5 supports fast charging that reaches 50% battery in approximately 30 minutes—though the required adapter isn't included in the box.
Charging Specifications
| Specification | Detail | |--------------|--------| | Battery Capacity | 72.4 watt-hours | | Included Adapter | 70W USB-C | | Fast Charge Requirement | 96W or higher | | Fast Charge Speed | 0-50% in ~30 minutes | | Full Charge Time | ~2 hours |
Adapter Requirement
The included 70W adapter provides standard charging but NOT fast charging. For the 50%-in-30-minutes capability, purchase a 96W USB-C Power Adapter separately.
Charging Ports
MagSafe 3: Magnetic connection with safe disconnect if the cable is pulled. Most convenient for daily use.
Thunderbolt/USB-C: All three ports accept charging at identical speeds. Useful when using docks or when MagSafe is blocked.
Important Notes
Multiple chargers don't combine. Connecting multiple power sources doesn't charge faster—macOS uses only the highest-power source.
Thunderbolt 5 Power Delivery: M5 Pro and Max models support up to 240W through Thunderbolt 5, useful for powering additional devices.
Battery Health Features
macOS includes intelligent charging protection:
- Optimized Battery Charging: Learns your routine and holds at 80% overnight, finishing when needed
- 80% Charge Limit: Optional setting to maximize long-term battery lifespan
Recommendation
If you travel frequently or need quick top-ups, invest in the 96W adapter for true fast charging capability.
