Yep, the Griffin Odyssey Spider Fly Tying Vise is a rotary vise. This makes it easier to handle the fly while you're working on it, which is really helpful for those more detailed patterns. The manufacturer's product description mentions it's all about efficiency and precision.
It comes with a C-clamp base that attaches securely to the edge of your table or desk. According to the manufacturer, this gives you good stability, which is great when you're working on complex tying techniques.
Also, from what we've gathered, this C-clamp makes it pretty portable, perfect if you need to change up your workspace a lot.
One thing that's really handy is the integrated bobbin cradle, which our research found to make the tying process smoother by keeping the bobbin steady and your hands less tired.
But it's worth noting that while the C-clamp base is super portable, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. If you prefer more stability, a pedestal base could be better.
Still, some have mentioned it does well performance-wise, even if they would've liked a pedestal option.
On the material side, there are some concerns about the plastic fittings and knobs. While these keep the vise light, they might not be the most durable in the long term.
Despite this, it seems to hit the mark for most fly tyers in terms of construction and efficiency.
So, overall, the Griffin Odyssey Spider Fly Tying Vise is solid with its rotary feature and C-clamp base. But if you're set on a pedestal base, you might consider checking out other options like the Peak Rotary Vise with Pedestal Base for something more stationary.
