The 60Hz display is the iPhone 17e's most discussed compromise. Whether it bothers you depends on your previous phone experience.
If You're Upgrading from iPhone 11 or Older
You won't notice anything different. These phones all ran at 60Hz. The 17e's screen will actually look better with improved colors and brightness.
If You're Coming from a ProMotion iPhone
You'll feel the difference immediately. Scrolling through social media, web pages, and apps won't flow as smoothly as you're used to. The adjustment is most noticeable in the first few days.
The Reality After a Week
Most reviewers report they stop noticing the 60Hz limitation after about a week of use. The display still delivers vibrant OLED colors, deep blacks, and solid outdoor brightness.
What 60Hz Means for Features
The slower refresh rate means no always-on display option. This feature requires ProMotion's variable refresh rate to work efficiently.
Compared to Android
The Google Pixel 10a and similar Android phones at this price offer 120Hz displays. For screen smoothness, Android alternatives currently lead.
Who Should Care
If you've never experienced 120Hz, you won't miss it. If you have and scroll smoothness matters to you, consider whether the $200 upgrade to the iPhone 17 makes sense for your daily use.
