The Professional Heavy Duty Hog Ring Pliers by Plant My Tank seem to do the job quite well for upholstery projects. The manufacturer's product description mentions they're made from alloy steel and come with 3/8 inch stainless steel hog rings, which makes them pretty handy for working with wire, fabric, and mesh.
The spring-loaded mechanism is a nice touch—it helps hold the hog rings securely and makes it easier to install them, which is great if you're into automotive upholstery or working with wire cages.
From what we found, folks who've used these pliers generally had good things to say, often mentioning how easy they are to use and how sturdy they feel. The spring-loaded feature gets a lot of love because it provides a solid grip that simplifies attaching hog rings.
However, there was a bit of confusion for some, who thought the pliers were fully stainless steel. It turns out they're made from alloy steel with PVC grips, and a magnet test suggests they're regular steel, which has some people wondering about their rust resistance over time.
Overall, these pliers seem pretty reliable for both home and professional projects. They've been especially handy for things like seating upholstery or fencing tasks.
While some folks suggested tweaks, like deeper grooves to hold the hog rings more securely, most seem pretty happy with them. They offer good value for the price, especially when considering that cheaper options might not hold up as well.
So, if you're planning on doing some upholstery work or similar projects, these pliers should definitely be on your list to consider. Even though a few minor improvements were mentioned, their overall performance and reliability make them worth a look.
