Coghlan's Waterproof Matches are pretty well-liked among outdoor folks for their ability to stay effective even after getting wet. According to the manufacturer, both the match heads and strikers are waterproof, and you need to use the box's striker surface to ignite them. This design helps with safety by reducing the chance of accidental fires.
From what we've found, these matches do hold up well even if they get a little soaked. A lot of people mentioned they could dry the matches out and still strike them without any problems, which is super handy in unpredictable weather.
However, there's a bit of a downside: the matchsticks themselves can be on the brittle side, so you'll want to be a bit gentle with them to avoid breaking.
There's also a bit of a heads-up: while they usually work great once lit, the match heads can be fragile. So, in high-stress situations where you might be in a rush, this could be a little tricky. Plus, there's mixed feedback about the striker plate's durability. With a lot of use, it might not work as well, and some people have noticed the matches might not strike as they should due to production variances or just because they're a bit delicate.
Bottom line, Coghlan's Waterproof Matches are pretty reliable for most outdoor scenarios and do a good job in wet conditions. They're a good backup for camping or emergency kits, but just make sure you handle them with care to avoid any breakage.
It might also be smart to have another way to start a fire, just in case. Whether you're off on a hike or prepping your emergency supplies, keeping these limitations in mind can help ensure they’re a valuable addition to your toolkit.
