Engineering Improvements
Samsung achieved these dimensions through several innovations:
- Third-generation Armor FlexHinge: 27% thinner, 43% lighter
- Removed S Pen digitizer layer: Significant thickness reduction
- Optimized display stack: Thinner panel construction
- Advanced alloy materials: Lighter and stronger components
Real-World Usability
Reviewers and users consistently report:
- Folded: Feels comparable to standard flagship phones
- Unfolded: Remarkably thin for an 8-inch display device
- Pocket comfort: Notably easier to carry than previous generations
- One-handed use: More practical for basic tasks when closed
Design Trade-offs
The slim profile required compromises:
| Feature | Impact | |---------|--------| | S Pen support | Removed (digitizer eliminated) | | Battery capacity | Unchanged at 4,400mAh | | Thermal performance | Some warmth during intensive tasks |
Most reviews conclude that improved portability outweighs these compromises for everyday use.
