If you're wondering about the battery life on the Eton FRX3+ emergency radio, here's the scoop. According to our research and what the manufacturer describes, it has several ways to stay powered up, which is great for emergencies.
The radio has a built-in rechargeable Ni-MH battery and offers a few methods to charge it: you can crank it by hand, use the solar panel, or plug it in with a micro USB cable.
Here's how the battery life breaks down:
-
Crank Charging: If you're hand-cranking it, about 4 minutes of effort will give you roughly 10 to 15 minutes of radio use or phone call time, based on our research. Keep in mind, this can vary depending on how fast you're cranking.
-
Solar Charging: The solar panel is handy for daytime use when there's sunshine. But it's slower, so it's more for backup than regular use.
-
USB Charging: Charging via USB is the fastest way to get a full charge. Once fully charged, you can get several hours of use, but this varies based on what you're doing with it.
A tip to keep in mind: even if you're not using the radio, it's a good idea to recharge the battery periodically to keep it in good shape.
The Eton FRX3+ is pretty reliable with different charging methods, but if you're going somewhere with no way to charge it, bringing a portable power bank could be a lifesaver.
Just remember to keep the radio charged and maintained so it's ready when you need it for weather alerts and emergencies.
