The iPhone 17e features a single 48MP rear camera that delivers excellent photo quality for its price. While it lacks the dual-camera system of the iPhone 17, Apple's computational photography helps bridge the gap.
Camera Specifications
Rear Camera:
- 48MP Fusion sensor with f/1.6 aperture

- Sensor-shift optical image stabilization
- 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 60fps
- Night mode support
Front Camera:
- 12MP TrueDepth
- f/1.9 aperture
- 4K video recording
Strengths
The iPhone 17e camera excels at:
- Daylight shots — Sharp details, accurate colors, wide dynamic range
- Portraits — Natural background blur with adjustable depth
- Video — Cinematic 4K with Dolby Vision and spatial audio
- Night mode — Solid low-light performance for a single-camera phone
Limitations
Compared to the iPhone 17, you're missing:
| Feature | iPhone 17e | iPhone 17 | |---------|-----------|-----------| | Rear cameras | 1 (main) | 2 (main + ultrawide) | | Ultrawide shots | No | Yes (0.5x) | | Macro mode | No | Yes | | Front camera | 12MP | 18MP with Center Stage | | Sensor size | 1/2.55" | Larger |
Who Should Consider Upgrading
For everyday photography—social media, family moments, casual documentation—the 17e performs admirably. Consider the iPhone 17 ($799) if you frequently use ultrawide shots, want macro capabilities, or prioritize low-light photography where the larger sensor makes a noticeable difference.
