If you're thinking about the Garmin eTrex 10 GPS for your outdoor activities, there are a few things you should know. It's a solid pick for basic navigation but has some limitations regarding map accuracy and storage.
Unlike more advanced models like the eTrex 20x or 30x, the eTrex 10 doesn't support additional maps via an SD card. It comes with a basic worldwide basemap that covers major cities and borders but isn't great for detailed navigation if you're venturing into new or complex terrains. So, you can't upload custom maps or extra data with this model.
This GPS is designed to be simple, focusing mainly on basic waypoint marking and track recording. As the manufacturer describes, it's ideal for straightforward navigation tasks and things like geocaching. You can mark waypoints and save tracks to use later with Garmin BaseCamp or similar software for creating more detailed routes.
Our research suggests that the eTrex 10 is often praised for its durability and how easy it is to use, making it a reliable entry-level device for various outdoor settings. It's especially popular among those new to GPS tech who don't need advanced mapping features. Its internal storage is only about 8 MB, which limits its map capabilities.
In a nutshell, the Garmin eTrex 10 is great if you want a tough, easy-to-use GPS for basic waypoint marking and tracking, like when hiking or exploring. It's simple and reliable, but if you need detailed maps or more storage, consider other models like the eTrex 20x or 30x.
Deciding on the eTrex 10 really depends on your specific needs and how you plan to use it.
