Why did Dell remove it? The new XPS 14 is thinner: 0.58 inches versus 0.71 inches before. When you're shaving off every fraction of a millimeter, the SD card slot becomes a casualty.

The good news? USB-C card readers are cheap and work great through Thunderbolt 4. If you have fast UHS-II cards, get a reader that supports those speeds. Data transfer will be just as fast as a built-in slot, maybe faster with Thunderbolt.

But let's be real: it's one more thing to pack, one more dongle to potentially forget at home, and one more point of failure. For casual photographers, it's fine. For professionals shooting hundreds of images daily, factor this into your buying decision.
