The Blue Wave NS420 12 mil Solar Blanket is supposed to help with a couple of things, mainly cutting down on water evaporation and keeping your pool warmer—at least that's what the manufacturer claims. They say it can last several seasons, but from what we've found, that might not be the case for everyone.
Many folks have noticed that this solar blanket does a good job of warming up their pools, boosting water temperatures, which goes hand in hand with the manufacturer's claim of reducing water evaporation by up to 95%. This is really helpful in places where conserving water matters, like hot and dry areas.
By reducing water loss, it keeps the pool level steady and helps cut down on debris buildup, too. Some people have mentioned that it lets them enjoy a nice swim even into the evening without the need for extra heating.
However, there are some concerns about how long it holds up. Quite a few people have experienced that while the blanket is great at first, its durability can take a hit after about a year, especially with strong sun exposure.
Users have pointed out that the bubbles might break down, leaving tiny plastic bits in the pool and affecting how well it works. There's a three-year warranty, but some folks found out the hard way that getting a replacement might come with extra costs.
The material can wear out quicker than expected, especially with lots of sun and chlorine, so if you're in a sunny or high-usage spot, it's something to think about. It might be wise to plan for replacing it sooner than the three years suggested by the manufacturer if you want to keep the benefits rolling without a hiccup.
So in a nutshell, the Blue Wave NS420 Solar Blanket has some big upfront benefits like lowering water evaporation and keeping the pool warm, but it's a good idea to be aware of its potential longevity issues depending on your climate. Thinking about these factors can help you decide if it's a good fit for your pool.
