Most users find AirPods Pro 3 comfortable for extended wear. However, a subset has reported ear pain and discomfort.
General Comfort
Apple redesigned Pro 3 with a smaller bulb and new foam-infused silicone ear tips that mold to different ear shapes. Five sizes (XXS, XS, S, M, L) help users find proper fit.
Reported Issues
Some users experience pain after 15-30 minutes, even when Pro 2 were comfortable for hours. Two main complaints:
Upper ear pressure: The redesigned housing sits slightly higher, creating sustained pressure against the top of the ear canal for some ear shapes.
Heart rate sensor pressure: The new PPG sensor creates a concentrated pressure point. Rare cases include skin irritation and minor injuries from sustained contact.
Troubleshooting
- Use the Ear Tip Fit Test in Settings to verify size
- Try different sizes. Sometimes sizing down helps
- Take breaks during long sessions
- Stop immediately if you experience pain or skin issues
Context
These reports represent a small percentage of users. Most owners wear Pro 3 comfortably. If you have sensitive ears, purchase from retailers with generous return policies.
Alternative
AirPods 4 use an open design without ear canal insertion, eliminating pressure issues for those who find in-ear designs uncomfortable.
