The Electric Mr. Pea Sheller is set up to handle various pea sizes, thanks to its splined rollers that adjust automatically to fit the pea hulls. That's supposed to make hulling smoother with some added torque, according to how the manufacturer describes it.
But, from what we've found, while it's generally good, it might have a hard time with larger types of peas. Our research indicates it doesn't adapt to bigger peas as well, which could be something to keep in mind.
The condition of the peas matters too. For the best results, it's recommended to use fresh and green peas. Letting the pods dry out for six to eight hours can also boost its performance.
Many folks find the Electric Mr. Pea Sheller to be a time-saver and easy to use, but there are a few quirks. We've found it might mash a few peas, especially bigger or not-so-mature ones, or if they're not prepped right.
Some also mentioned it might jam or need a little manual tweaking if not watched closely. Keeping the feeder bin correctly loaded and not too full can help avoid these hassle moments.
In the end, you'll want to weigh both the manufacturer's guidance and what others have said if you're thinking about using this sheller, particularly if you're dealing with larger peas.
Making sure you're prepping the peas right and keeping an eye on the process can definitely improve the results.
But if handling larger peas smoothly is a top priority, you might want to look into other options as a backup plan.
