The WILLBOND 5-piece Linocut Carving Tools Set could be a good pick for beginners who want to dip their toes into linocut printmaking and wood carving. Our research found that the set comes with tools made from materials like steel, iron, and beech wood. The blade sizes range from 1.5mm to 5mm.
It's a budget-friendly option compared to more expensive professional sets, which makes it accessible if you're just starting out and not ready to spend a lot on tools.
Speaking of usage, some beginners have found these tools pretty handy for various detail work. For example, we discovered that the blades come sharp right out of the box, making them suitable for intricate corner detailing. This suggests that they do well for basic tasks, which is important for beginners getting used to carving.
However, there are some remarks about the durability of the blades. In one instance, a blade snapped while working on balsa wood, which is quite soft. This might mean that while they're fine for light, detailed work, they might not hold up if you're working on something more demanding.
The manufacturer notes the tools are meant for a variety of uses, but they advise handling with care. Keeping them sharp might require a sharpening block.
People seem to like the ergonomic handles, lightweight feel, and protective rubber covers for the blades, which add to comfort and safety.
So, if you're new and looking for an inexpensive way to start linocut carving, this WILLBOND set might work for you—as long as you know its durability limits and handle the tools with care.
These features, along with the comfy handles, make them a decent pick for someone beginning their carving journey.
