Hey, I noticed there was a bit of confusion in the details I first came across, but I’ve got the scoop for you now. When it comes to the Grainfather Connect, it can handle up to about 20 pounds (or 9 kg) of grain.
If you’re planning to make bigger batches or use more grain-heavy recipes, that's a pretty helpful number to keep in mind.
Just to clear up any mix-ups, the counter-flow wort chiller that comes with the Grainfather Connect is a separate feature from the grain capacity. Its main job is to chill your wort efficiently using a copper coil and running cold water in the opposite direction.
It can cool down 6 gallons of wort to under 68°F in about 20-30 minutes, but of course, that's slightly influenced by your tap water temp.
Understanding your grain capacity is a big deal because it helps you plan your brewing schedule and recipes, and affects how much malt you can use.
That’s a big factor in what the final volume and gravity of your beer will be like. With the Grainfather Connect, being able to manage up to 20 pounds gives you a decent amount of flexibility to try out different beer styles.
I hope this clears things up a bit and helps you decide if the Grainfather Connect fits what you're looking for in a brewing system.
