nullTechnically, the Galaxy S26 Ultra has IP68 water resistance. But Samsung says don't swim with it—and they mean it.
What IP68 actually covers:
The phone is tested in still fresh water, 1.5 meters deep, for 30 minutes. That's it. The tests don't involve chlorine, salt, movement, pressure from diving, or anything resembling swimming conditions.
IP68 protects against accidents. Phone falls in a puddle, drops in the sink, survives a rainstorm. That stuff is fine.
Why pools are different:
Chlorine attacks the rubber seals that keep water out. Over time pool water degrades those seals. Swimming involves movement and pressure that push water harder than still-water testing.
And Samsung won't cover water damage under warranty. Even with IP68 rating. The rating handles accidents, not intentional underwater use.
What about the ocean?
Worse. Saltwater is corrosive. Even if water doesn't fully get inside, salt can damage components.
Hot tubs and steam rooms?
Also bad. Heat affects adhesives and seals. Steam penetrates places liquid water can't.
Will it survive an accidental pool drop?
Probably yes, especially if you grab it quickly and let ports dry before charging. An accidental drop is exactly what IP68 is designed for.
The seal aging problem:
Your phone's water resistance degrades over time. A new S26 Ultra is more resistant than one used for two years.
For underwater photos:
Use a GoPro or waterproof pouch. Don't rely on IP68 for intentional underwater use.
