## Verdict

The Makita XT296ST 18V LXT 2-Pc. Combo Kit offers solid, reliable power with excellent battery life and the trusted Makita durability you expect, especially if you value precise screw control and long runtime. However, the included soft case and occasional gear slipping might make some users pause, especially if you want maximum ruggedness or flawless performance. If you want a combo with a sturdier carrying case or are concerned about gear slipping, you might want to explore other Makita kits or similar brushless combos for a slight upgrade in handling and durability. Overall, this kit is _a smart pick_ for most woodworking and DIY enthusiasts who appreciate Makita’s quality.

**Top pro:** Reliable performance that meets expectations for both drilling and impact driving tasks.
**Top con:** The included soft case feels inferior to a hard case, detracting from the overall value.
