While there are so *Published: 2025-12-21 | Updated: 2025-12-21 | Source: https://shopsavvy.com/products/samsung-990-pro-ssd-2tb* --- **Brand:** SAMSUNG **Price Range:** $119.99 - $531.65 across 90 retailers ## Expert Summary The SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen4 offers blazing speeds and reliable performance, making it an excellent choice for high-end computing, gaming, and heavy-duty workstations. While there are some issues with initial units and hardware encryption, the overall benefit of fast performance and improved system responsiveness holds strong. If you require hardware encryption specifically, you might want to consider alternatives such as the SK Hynix P41. ## Pros - Blazing fast and reliable performance with up to 7,450 MB/s sequential read speeds, perfect for high-end computing, gaming, and heavy workloads. - Significant improvement in system boot times, file transfers, and overall responsiveness compared to older drives. - Easy NVMe M.2 installation coupled with user-friendly Samsung Magician software that simplifies data migration, performance optimization, and drive health monitoring. - Comes with an angular heatsink featuring customizable RGB LEDs, providing effective cooling that helps maintain peak speeds during intense use. - Impressively low latency and high IOPS ratings, giving a smooth experience for gaming and media editing. - Durable and long-lasting with a 5-year limited warranty and endurance rating of 1200 TBW. - Consistent and stable performance in various gaming scenarios, including seamless compatibility with PS5. - Outperforms many competitors in real-world benchmarks, particularly for users with PCIe 4.0 capable systems. ## Cons - May not always reach the advertised peak read/write speeds in real-world use; some users report fluctuating or lower than expected performance. - Initial units have caused blue screens of death (BSOD) for some early adopters, though replacements generally resolve these issues. - Removing the heatsink voids the warranty and requires specialized tools, which can be inconvenient if users want a slimmer build. - Hardware encryption support is problematic—several users report failing Bitlocker and no firmware fixes are currently available, making it unsuitable for those depending on native hardware encryption. - Performance can degrade or fluctuate especially as space fills up on the drive. - Can get quite hot during extended file transfers or heavy workloads, even with the heatsink in place. - SK Hynix P41 SSD offers comparable or better performance with potentially longer lifespan, making it a worthy alternative to consider, especially if encryption or endurance is a priority. - Comes with a heatsink that may not fit in all device enclosures without modifications. ## Specifications | Attribute | Value | |-----------|-------| | Product Type | Home theater system | | Components | Speaker system, Blu-ray disc player / AV receiver | | Audio Channels | Stereo | | Decoders | Dolby Digital, DTS decoder, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution | | 3D Technology | Yes | | Functions | Digital player, AV receiver, Blu-ray disc player, network player, Bluetooth audio receiver | | Source | Blu-ray, Network, USB-host, Bluetooth | | Media Type | DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-RW, CD-R, BD-R, BD-RE, BD-ROM, CD-DA, DTS Audio CD | | Audio Formats | WMA, AAC, MP3, FLAC | | Video Formats | DivX, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, XviD, MPEG-4, WMV, MKV, DivX HD, H.264, VC-1, AVCHD, MOV, 3GP, VOB, FLV, M4V, VC-9 | | Photo Formats | GIF, JPEG, PNG | | Equalizer | Yes | | Surround System Class | 4.2 channel | | Output Power / Total | 1000 Watt | | Amplifier Output Details | 167 Watt - 3 Ohm - THD 10% - 2 channels (front) ¦ 167 Watt - 3 Ohm - THD 10% - 2 channels (surround) ¦ 167 Watt - 3 Ohm - THD 10% - 2 channels (subwoofer) | | Features | CD ripping, SimpLink, Audio Return Channel (ARC), smartphone remote controlled, x.v.Color, Deep Color | | Speakers | 2 x main channel speaker - external - 500 Watt - wired | | Type | Blu-ray disc player | | Preset Station Qty | 50 preset stations | | BD Profiles | Profile 2.0 (BD-Live), BD Profile 5.0 (Blu-ray 3D) | ## About This Product Reach max performance of PCIe® 4.0*.
