# AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D *Published: 2026-01-02 | Updated: 2026-01-02 | Source: https://shopsavvy.com/products/amd-ryzen-9-9950x3d* --- **Brand:** AMD **Price Range:** $584.99 - $1099.99 across 40 retailers ## Pros - Delivers 10% higher gaming frame rates on average compared to the 14900KF and up to 34% higher frame rates versus Intel's Core Ultra 9 285K in 1080p gaming - Runs significantly cooler than the 14900KF (78°C during gaming vs 98°C), with stable temperatures of 70-80°C under load with proper cooling - Excels in both gaming and content creation with 16 cores, 32 threads, and second-generation 3D V-Cache technology providing 144MB total cache - Consumes less power during gaming despite improved performance, with effective cooling solutions managing the 170W TDP - Dual CCD design with one X3D core for gaming and one standard core provides exceptional value for mixed gaming and productivity workloads - Productivity workloads run approximately 75% faster than the 9800X3D, making it the best AMD option for builds requiring both gaming and creation performance - Provides enough performance headroom that no CPU upgrade will be needed for the foreseeable future - Excellent silicon quality with both cores performing at high frequencies; can be safely undervolted by 15mV for improved efficiency - Delivers full GPU utilization without bottlenecking when paired with high-end graphics cards - Represents a reliable switch from Intel with no compatibility or stability problems ## Cons - Memory frequency is limited when using 4 DIMMs, with maximum stable speeds of 5.6 MT/s even after tuning, which can bottleneck memory-intensive workloads - Only supports 2 memory channels despite supporting up to 256GB of RAM, which may limit performance for certain workstation applications - Runs considerably hotter than some alternatives, with idle temperatures of 49-53°C and spikes exceeding 240W under full load - Higher TDP of 170W requires efficient cooling solutions and may increase overall system costs - Chipset updates are necessary to properly utilize the processor's capabilities - VSoC voltage must be kept at or below 1.2V to avoid CPU degradation, requiring careful configuration ##
