## Where prices come from

When you scan, search or open a product in the ShopSavvy app or the browser extension, ShopSavvy checks the stores that sell it: your device opens those stores' product pages and reads the price, stock status and shipping from them. For some large stores, ShopSavvy's servers also check prices. The results are saved, so ShopSavvy knows prices at tens of thousands of retailers.

Product pages on this website show the prices most recently found, each with the date it was last seen.

## How products are matched across stores

Stores describe the same product differently, so ShopSavvy matches offers using identifiers where it has them (the barcode number, such as a UPC or EAN, Amazon's ASIN, the manufacturer part number or model number) together with the product title.

Each offer is then checked to confirm it is the same product at a plausible price. Offers a check marks as a different product or a wrong price are left out of the comparison.

## How prices are ordered

Price lists in the app, the extension and on product pages are sorted lowest first. No store can pay to rank higher in them.

## How often watched products are re-checked

When you watch a product, ShopSavvy schedules it for a re-check, and alerts you when a check finds a lower price or a restock. Products a ShopSavvy Pro member watches are scheduled more often.

Re-checks run in the background on the devices of the people watching the product, so how often a product is actually checked depends on how often those devices let ShopSavvy run. That is why each watched product shows when it was last checked, and why ShopSavvy never promises an alert "the moment" a price drops.

## What "last seen" means

Every offer carries the date ShopSavvy last saw that price on the store's page. On product pages, a price last seen more than 30 days ago is marked "may have changed". Prices change often, so the store's own page has the final price.

## How ShopSavvy makes money

Retailer commissions: when you buy through some links to a store, that store may pay ShopSavvy a commission. It costs you nothing extra and does not change the order of a price list.

Ads in the free iPhone, iPad and Android apps; ShopSavvy Pro, an optional subscription that removes them; Pro and Max plans in the desktop app; and data products for businesses (the Data API, ShopSavvy for Business, the Search API and data licensing).

## How to report a wrong price

On a product page, choose "Report an issue with this page" to tell us a price was different or a link goes to a different product. You can also email support@shopsavvy.com with the page address.

## Price history

ShopSavvy has been comparing prices since 2008. Its price history goes back to 2011, dense from 2019, so a product's chart shows how its price moved at each store and whether today's price is really low.
