The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 heart rate monitor is accurate for everyday fitness tracking but less precise than chest straps during intense exercise.

## Accuracy Statistics

Clinical testing of similar Samsung technology:
- **Average error**: 3.4% (vs Apple Watch at 1.8%)
- **High-intensity**: Gap widens during interval training

## Best Accuracy Conditions

- Resting heart rate measurements
- Light to moderate exercise
- Steady-state cardio
- Snug, stable watch fit
- Clean sensor contact

## Reduced Accuracy Factors

- HIIT and interval training
- High wrist movement activities
- Cold conditions
- Loose watch fit
- Arm tattoos
- Sweaty/dirty sensors

## BioActive Sensor Technology

Multi-sensor approach:
- **Optical (PPG)**: Light-based blood flow detection
- **Electrical (ECG)**: Heart electrical activity
- **Bioimpedance (BIA)**: Body composition

## Continuous Monitoring

Alerts for:
- High heart rate (customizable threshold)
- Low heart rate
- Irregular rhythm (Samsung phone required)

## ECG Readings

On-demand ECG by placing fingers on side button for 30 seconds. Irregular rhythm notifications require Samsung phone.

## Tips for Better Accuracy

1. Wear snugly, one finger-width above wrist bone
2. Keep sensor clean before workouts
3. Allow warm-up time before intense exercise
4. For maximum precision, pair with [Bluetooth chest strap](https://shopsavvy.com/search?q=heart+rate+chest+strap+bluetooth)

## Bottom Line

Sufficient for general fitness tracking and trend analysis. For competitive training or clinical needs, supplement with a chest strap heart rate monitor.
