Yes, the iPhone 17e is water resistant with an IP68 rating—the same protection level as the iPhone 17 and Pro models.

## What IP68 Means

The rating breaks down as:

- **IP6X (Dust):** Complete dust protection
- **IPX8 (Water):** Submersion beyond 1 meter

Apple specifies the iPhone 17e can withstand up to 6 meters (20 feet) of fresh water for 30 minutes.

## Protected Against

The IP68 rating handles common accidents:

- Dropped in sinks, toilets, or bathtubs
- Rain and splashes
- Spilled drinks
- Washing hands while holding the phone
- Brief accidental pool submersion

## Limitations to Know

**Not Covered by Warranty**

Despite the rating, Apple's warranty excludes liquid damage. If water causes problems, repairs won't be free.

**Degradation Over Time**

Water resistance can weaken from:
- Normal wear and aging
- Drops and impacts
- Repeated water exposure

**More Aggressive Liquids**

Fresh water is the standard—these are harder on seals:
- Salt water and ocean water
- Chlorinated pool water
- Soapy water and detergents
- Sunscreen and lotions

## Best Practices

To maintain protection:

1. Don't intentionally swim or shower with your phone
2. Dry thoroughly before charging if exposed to water
3. Rinse with fresh water after salt or chlorine exposure
4. Avoid steam rooms and saunas

## Bottom Line

Treat IP68 as protection against accidents, not permission for underwater use. The iPhone 17e offers the same water resistance as Apple's premium phones—you're not compromising durability by choosing the budget option.
